Life at Lyric

This season has been so busy, that I haven't had much time for blogging.  I will have a Thanksgiving update for you soon, but until then, I thought I would show you all the work that has been keeping me busy.

Ever wonder how all that scenery get onto our stage?

On a busy downtown street, a truck driver will back up the trailer into Lyric's garage door that is connected to backstage.

There is a giant freight elevator that can hold the trucks container full of scenery, and the stage hands are able unload directly onto the stage.

It's an intense process, but works like a charm.

Once the scenery is unloaded the guys put the set together.  Here are some of my friends working on the floor of Lucia di Lammermoor, our second opera of the season.

The floor was mirrored and here, the guys remove the white protective cover to expose the pretty black mirror underneath.

Meanwhile, the scenic artist, Brian, puts some finishing touches on the Lucia tower.

The mirrored floor was so pretty. Here's a view from the stage, you can see the house reflecting in the floor.

Here's a view of the chorus dressing room. It's all prepared with their Tales of Hoffmann costumes.

And pretty wigs!

Speaking of wigs! This is a pic I took of my friends in the wig and makeup department.

They work very hard during the day building and styling every single wig onstage, as well as doing makeup for the artists at night in performances.

This is a great shot of my friend, Ora, as she builds a new wig for Lucia.

They have also been busy building the hundreds of beards used in Boris Godunov.

Lately, the dressing room hallways have been full of Boris's heavy Russian inspired clothes.

Here the famous lighting designer, Duane Schuler, talks with Lyrics lighting department about
Boris Gudunov

My props friends, Charlie and Mac are backstage during the Ariadne rehearsal making sure all the props are ready to go.

I have an amazing job, and I'm so proud to be one of the hundreds of people taking part in creating great art!
