Celebrating

Celebrating Spring!

It obvious, we're in LOVE!

But besides that we are busy. :) Ruben has been busy traveling and playing many gigs over the past 6 weeks. What's been great is that he's playing all kinds of music. He's played classical (as usual,) a blue grass musical, and some jazzy rock music all in the past few weeks. This week it's a pops concert. So fun, and so amazing! We are hoping that these opportunities will continue to open doors and get Ruben some more work.

In the meantime, I have been checking out the music and art scene here in Chicago.

A few weeks ago I went to see the Joffrey Ballet perform with my friend Melissa. They were fantastic!

Last week over lunch some co-workers and I went to a free performance at the Chicago Cultural Center. Our good friend and former colleague, Kassandra was playing percussion in her flamenco group. She's the one on the far left.

Later that evening I went the Chicago Opera Theater's production of "Three Decembers" by Jake Heggie. My friend Amy Thompson was the production stage manager, and I was really impressed with this production. A new opera that originated in Houston, and was so emotional and familiar. I really loved it.

But a majority of our weekend time has been spent in the garden. We have been doing a lot of work back there trying to make it nice for having guests. Ruben and I plan on having a wedding reception for our friends in Chicago, and to host it in our backyard.

The other day after some rain, I went out and found a huge garden snake on top of one of our bushes. That and a bunch of butterflies. :)
Here's another view of the yard and our new patio furniture.

Ruben has been working hard clearing the path of growth. It looks so nice. :)

Being back here makes me so happy!

The dogs love it too!

This past weekend Ruben and I went to the wedding of my co-worker Val. We were somewhat emotional, I guess feeling the emotions building of our up and coming nuptials. It was such a great wedding event. Lots of fun and surprises. :)
The procession was to Cher's song "A different type of love song." Val and her partner Lindsey met sweetly in the middle of the stage, and then on a beat of the music...
everyone started dancing to the music, which made the guests cheer and dance along. It was such a joyous moment. :)

After the intermission the couple had an improv troupe perform. The troupe took suggestions from the guests and created this great musical live onstage in front of us. It was so funny! What a great way to entertain guests!

Later they served all their favorite foods and had great dancing.

It was a very genuine and love filled event. It made Ruben and I so excited about our own event, and has really put us into high gear as far as planning.

Speaking of....

I've been planning our wedding since the day we were engaged.

I started with my production book.

Tabs and all...

I've been trying to think of every detail of the decor design and sketching it out,

as well as sketching out the seating arrangements.

I have also been making to do lists, packing lists, making arrangements with the hotel, and order cake. So much to do in the next 46 days! :)
So exciting!
