October Fun and Friends

We are adjusting to life in our new place, and it's so special, our life as newlyweds in our new apartment.

Canon still enjoys hanging out in his room, and chewing on his bone.

Nikon, can't jump on the bed, but we he gets up there, he perches for a while. You can see our wedding bedding that was given to us by the ladies in the wardrobe department at the office.

I absolutely love the colors and design of it!

Nothing is better in fall weather but a pipping hot cup of Earl Grey Tea, which Ruben will fix for me with out me having to ask! He's such a sweetie!

Last weekend Ruben had a performance in Wisconsin. Here is he, looking handsome in his suit, on his way out to his gig.

Later that evening we were invited to a dinner party at my former boss's house, David. David was my stage manager at Writers' Theatre that I assisted for 2 years. Every year, he has us over for dinner with my friend Tina Louise and her husband, Mike.

Here's David, fixing an amazing meal.

This is his Kitty, sitting in my chair and eyeballing the cocktails. :)

After dinner we sat around the table, drank wine, & caught up.

We also have taken more steps to make our apartment more our own. Surprisingly when we moved in, the color scheme of the apartment worked really well with our furniture and belongings. There were only a few rooms we wanted to change. One was the kitchen and the other the bathroom. It was decided that we would paint the kitchen first. We were able to get that accomplished, in our usual team work way. I painted the walls and Ruben painted the trim. It turned out great, and I really love the change from the light green to the purple.

Ruben picked out this color at Home Depot, looking at their mistake cans, and got a gallon for only $5! The whole gallon was more than enough for the space!

This past weekend was the first time, I have been off the entire weekend. Finally, I was able to work on some house projects, and organize some of my own belongings. I'm really pleased with the way everything in turning out. I'm hoping by next month all will be in place, and we will have no more boxes lying around.

In the meantime, I took some time to catch up with a good friend, Suzanne. She came down early Saturday morning to a breakfast place in my neighborhood.

Here's Suz, with her coffee.

Here we are together. We had an amazing time catching up and talking about work (she's an actress,) married life (been married for 7 years,) and all the trials and tribulations that go along with life. I love girlfriends that are honest and willing to share and even council. It's really refreshing to have friends like that who care! I even got a chance to show off my new wedding album, which I am very proud of. :)

I have given my notice at the Goodman Theatre to finish up working for them by the end of the month. I have enjoyed working there, but the schedule is killer. My goal is to focus on getting back into shape, as for the past few months, my health has taken a back burner. Time for me to focus on eating right and getting in my daily physical activity. I want to look fantastic for Heather's wedding in June next year, and gotta get started!
This week is busy, I'm going to an opening performance of The Seagull at the Goodman tonight, then I work the rest of the evenings this week, except Friday. Then, this Saturday afternoon/evening, I'm assisting another wedding for Five Grain Events. Then we also have some fun Halloween events to squeeze in this weekend as well! Pics to come soon!
I'm, also, hoping to get a video tour of the new apartment loaded soon!
Love to all!

What's New in October

Life has been busy as we have been moving and working. On October 1, Lyric Opera opened it's season with the production of Verdi's Macbeth. It's a fantastic performance, and has been great to work on and help put together.

Opening night is a big evening at the opera house, it is a formal event, with appetizers in the lobby, and gorgeous flower arrangements, then the performance. During the festivities, the company hires photographers to go around photographing all the fabulous opera goer's. My job for the evening was to follow the photographers and to get the names and locations of the guest photographed. Below is a picture of our lobby during the opening reception. So much fun, and it looks great!

I had a dress malfunction and when I arrived my dress was not suitable to wear for the evening, at the last minute the wardrobe department dressed me in a black gown and added a pink sash. They basically sewed me into it, and I went to work! Those ladies are amazing. Here, I am posing with one of my co-workers, Elise, we were photo captioners together.

After the performance, we have a large opera ball with dinner and dancing for patrons who would like to spend several hundreds of dollars to dine with the director and cast of the production. It's a big deal, and of course the photographers were there, so I had to be there too. One of the perks for working such a long evening in an evening gown is eating the food! Below is a pic of the dessert plate, with a chocolate sword in honor of Macbeth. :)

Here are some of my co-workers sitting together, you can see the room decorations and how fabulous it turned out!

The whole week before, Ruben and I moved out of our old place, and into our new one. Below are some pics of us in our new apartment putting our stuff away. Ruben has been amazing in this whole process, and has worked very hard during this move!

In our new kitchen. It has a bar with bar stools!

The dogs love the house, cause it's long, and they can chase each other from one end of the house to the other. :)

We also have a dining room and a living room!

This is me in the dining room, and you can see the hallway to the bathroom and kitchen, which have nice tile floors. SO much better than old linoleum!

We also had the chance this week to see the performance of "Candide" at the Goodman Theatre on Wednesday night. Working there has been a great opportunity for me, especially having the chance to see their performances for free!

It was a really great performance, and we had a wonderful time sitting through it, even though it was 3 hours long. :)

After the performance we were hungry, so we stopped by our favorite pizza joint. I snapped a picture of it, cause it's located in the Mexican neighborhood of the city. I love the Aztec mural painted on the walls, and I'm becoming friends with the Mexican men who make this awesome pizza. :)

Life is a bit hectic, but we're having a great time with each other. I actually picked up an opportunity to work as an assistant for an event company doing a wedding in North Eastern Indiana all day on Saturday. And Ruben picked up another gig for next weekend. So, we are excited to be blessed with so much work!
I sent out an mass email to the family with our new mailing address and phone numbers. (I have gotten a new phone line as well this month.) Let me know if you did not receive the email, and I will send along our information.
Much love ,
Shannon
